Team Based Learning Center

The project was awarded through our existing IDIQ services contract with UTRGV. The scope includes 26,652 gross square feet of building, sited on the northern section of the UT Rio Grande Valley Edinburg campus adjacent and east of the School of Medicine Medical Education Building (SOM EMEBL). Its location is consistent with the UTPA legacy master plan and the creation of a medical/health professions education and research complex. The proposed building will also complement the existing unique architectural vocabulary of the Edinburg campus and SOM EMEBL.
The new building includes a classroom and office building will create new space and will alleviate the current space demand. It is a viable solution in maintaining the mission of the School of Medicine as a catalyst for education in health care, identifying problems in the community, and in serving highly qualified students and faculty. The new facility will house faculty and administrative offices, touch down spaces, small group study spaces for our growing medical student population, flexible and general purpose classrooms, conference rooms, study and support space. The design will feature problem based learning classrooms with modern technology which are needed to provide the kind of educational experience mandated by the accrediting board. The building will be constructed using a composite structural floor and a steel frame with metal stud back up, brick veneer, cast stone trim, and fenestration complimenting the adjacent SOM EMEBL. Parking for the facility currently exists along the western edge of the property as a component of the SOM complex with adjacent parking lot areas in the immediate vicinity on the western and northern edges of the property.
